Companies of all sizes can now build, manage and report NIST Special Publication (SP) 800-171 with instinctual tools and guidance that remove the complexities of compliance.
ATLANTA – March 11, 2019, Apptega, the global cybersecurity management software company, today announced the NIST Special Publication (SP) 800-171 framework is now available in the Apptega platform. IT teams, CIOs, and other compliance professionals associated with the Department of Defense (DoD) and organizations that handle Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI) in non-federal computer systems have been challenged to explicate and implement over 110 control requirements to design an effective security program.
Derived from the Federal Information Security Management Act (FISMA), NIST 800-171 standardizes how federal agencies define CUI. The NIST 800-171 controls apply to federal government contractors and sub-contractors, companies that hold contracts with a federal agency, Universities and research institutions supported by federal grants, and virtually any other company that provides services, goods, or manufacturing to the United States federal government.
Building, managing and reporting NIST 800-171 has been difficult for companies – and it is usually done manually by combining dozens of Excel spreadsheets and Word documents that may take months to assemble and understand. Reporting is further complicated by the amount of systems, processes, and technologies in scope, and the growing amount of data organizations are collecting and tracking across 110+ control requirements. Apptega’s management software and one-click reporting lets organizations instantly report their NIST 800-171 program for audits, customer requests, and compliance.
“Organizations, across all industries, that conduct business operations with federal agencies are challenged to quickly build, manage and report NIST 800-171 compliance, manage inter-agency requests, and demonstrate effective security programs to compete for large governmental contracts” said Armistead Whitney, CEO of Apptega. “Apptega organizes the entire NIST 800-171 lifecycle with easy-to-use tools, guidance and reporting. This makes the entire process 50x more efficient for thousands of companies frustrated using one-dimensional Excel spreadsheets. Apptega will be recognized as the new standard for automating NIST 800-171 management.”
Apptega’s NIST 800-171 framework joins the platform’s other core frameworks including GDPR, SOC2, NIST 800-53, NIST CSF, HIPAA, PCI DSS, ISO27001, NYDFS as well as others and is supported by a team of certified NIST 800-171 experts.
